Miscellaneous Adventures

Hand crafted outdoor things

About Miscellaneous Adventures

About:

Miscellaneous Adventures was created as an art project in 2011 by illustrator, Andrew Groves as a way to combine creativity with his enthusiasm for the great outdoors. We make functional wooden objects inspired by nature, adventures and quests alongside design, illustration and outdoor accessories. Our products are not only derived from the great outdoors, they are designed to be used there too.

Our products:

Each wooden item is unique due to the natural variations of wood grain and we use a variety of finishing techniques, rough and smooth, to reflect the textures and patterns found in nature. Only hand tools are used to make the wooden items - axes and carving knives - and we only work with trees from sustainable sources which we have felled and processed ourselves. The skills used to make our products and harvest the materials have been acquired through our own adventures whilst surfing, snowboarding, hiking and living in the woods.

Workshops:

Alongside the store, we run regular Woodland Woodcarving Workshops aimed at teaching creative people how to make their own wooden objects in an outdoor environment. We hope to encourage folks away from their computer screens and desk jobs to learn outdoor skills, make things and reconnect with nature.

Product care:

All our wooden objects are treated with a high grade, food safe linseed oil to protect them from dirt and moisture. To care for wooden spoons, cups and bowls simply rinse with water after use. Avoid letting the items soak and occasionally replenish the finish with linseed or a similar food safe oil. The wood will change colour over time and develop it’s own character and finish which we think is part of the pleasure of using wooden utensils.
